Kerosiinilaitoksen kuljettimen kehittäminen : ABB Oy Transformers

The objective of this thesis was to research and make a plan for a new solution of the current transporter of the vapour phase drying plant (VPD) for ABB Oy Transformers, as well as providing necessary technical information for the procurement process. The problem of the current rail guided transport system was that the carts of the transport system were left in the VPD plants oven during the drying process. This caused problems for the bearings of the carts and reduced the cleanliness level of the drying process.

Transferring extremely heavy parts inside the factory to top covered areas is often impossible with a crane. Pallet transporters, such as rail, wheel and air film transporters are very suitable for this type of transportations. Pallet transporter manufacturers were searched from the internet, and the information given on their websites was used in this thesis to compare which transport type was the most suitable for the production line at a VPD plant. The conditions of the production line at the VPD plant were researched by interviewing the plant operators and maintenance personnel as well as investigating archived documents. Important dimensions in the VPD line were measured to be used in creating the functional dimensions for the new transport system.

By investigating the current situation it was found out that the main problem was in rapid drying of lubricants in the bearings and other moving parts of the transporter cart which caused wearing and problems in operating the transporter. An equally important reason was that the carts were carrying impurities to the oven of the VPD plant. Problems that carts caused were solved by replacing them with steel pallets. The selected transporter type was a battery operated and remote controlled rail pallet with a flat deck. The reason for the selection of the rail transporter was that the other transport types would have caused larger modification operations to the production line of the VPD plant.
