Kvarkens skärgård ligger västerom Vasa stad. Det är den smalaste delen av Bottniska viken. Det kortaste avståndet, ca 60km mellan Sverige och Finland finns mellan Svedjehamn i Björkö och Holmön utanför Umeå i Sverige. Befolkningen i Österbotten(nuv. Finland) och Västerbotten(Sverige) har sedan länge samarbetat över Kvarken. Norrland i svenska Kungarriket styrdes under 1300-talet från slottet i Korsholm, Österbotten. Skärgårdsborna på båda sidor har länge skött ärenden som postfrakt, handel och passagerare. Folken betungades särskilt under långvariga krig mellan Sverige och Ryssland. Björköborna ställde upp med båtar, manskap, frakt och tjänster till Sveriges kungarike. Detta är föregångaren till dagens Kvarkentrafik och samarbeten. Examensarbetets bakgrund är rik ur ett historiskt perspektiv. Kvarkens skärgård bör bevaras respektfullt även med hänsyn till naturarvet. I Forstsyrelsens naturturismplan för världsarvet Kvarken skall man fungera bl.a. i enlighet med hållbar turism. I detta examensarbete eftersträvas främjande av Björkös turismnäring. Avgränsningen behandlar produktutvecklingen av de existerande upplevelsevandringarna i Björköby. (Meriruoho. A. 2011. 29.) (Kvarkenrådet) Den teoretiska referensramen behandlar strukturen för uppbyggnaden av evenemang enligt Iiskola-Kesonens modell för evenemangsplanering. I evenemangsplaneringen integreras en servicekoncept-modell enligt Grönroos modell. Teorins modeller kommer att tillämpas i examensarbetet för att skapa en mer funktionell servicehelhet. I den empiriska delen härleds teorin för att skapa och utvärdera servicekonceptet. Uppdragsgivarens verkställande av arbetet avgör hur detta lyckas som servicekoncept och examensarbete. Examensarbetets resultat och slutsatser härleds ur det skapta servicekonceptet. Det som skapats har fått formen av additionella utvecklade kärntjänster och därtill hörande tjänster för helhetens funktion. Med detta färdigt utvecklade servicekonceptet kan examensarbetet överlämnas som sådant till uppdragsgivaren för framtida verkställande.

The Kvarken Archipelago is located to the west of the city of Vasa. It is the narrowest part of the Botnian gulf. The shortest distance of 60 kilmometers is between Svedjehamn-harbour in Björkö, Finland and the isle of Holmö outside the city of Umeå, Sweden. The people in Ostrobothnia(Finland) and Västerbotten(Sweden) have since ages ago cooperated across Kvarken. In the 14th century the entire north of Sweden was governed from the castle of Korsholm in Ostrobothnia, Finland. The archipelago folks on both sides managed tasks as shipping mail, trade and passangers. They were particularly troubled during the prolonged wars between Sweden and Russia. The people in Björkö set up for Sweden assisting with boats, labourers, cargo and other services to the kingdom of Sweden. This is the predecessor to cooperation and the traffic in Kvarken today. The background of this thesis is rich in a historical manner. The archipelago of Kvarken is to be preserved with respect for the natural heritage. According to the Metsähallitus(Forestry authorities) naturetourismplan for the world heritage one should work in accordance with sustainable tourism. The objetive for this thesis is to promote tourism in Björkö. The thesis delimitation consist of the development of an existing tourismproduct, which are the walkingexperiences in Björkö. (Meriruoho. A. 2011. 29.) (Kvarken council – Kvarkenråden i Finland). The referenceframe of the thesis consists of assembling an event accordning to Iiskola-Kesonens model for event planning. In the event planning, Grönroos model for a service concept is integrated. The theorethical models will be applied in the thesis in order to create a more functional entity of service. In the empirical part the theory is applied for creating and evaluating the service concept. The thesis employers appliance of the created service concept determines the successfulness of this thesis. The thesis results and conclusions are derived from the created service concept. What has been created is in the form of additional developed core services and related services reinforcing the function of the entity. With a completed developed service concept this thesis can be handed over as such to the thesis employer for future endeavors.
