WORKING PAPERS IN ECONOMIC SOCIOLOGY : Arkielämä ja osallistuminen -kyselyn tutkimusseloste

This publication examines “The everyday life and participation” mail survey data. The data were collected in the beginning of the year 2017 at the Unit of Economic Sociology, University of Turku, as a part of the ”Political Bubbles” research project funded by the Foundation for Municipal Development and the Helsingin Sanomat Foundation. Questionnaires were sent to a total of 4,001 18–84-year-olds Finnish-speakers, who were selected using simple random sampling technique from the Finnish Population Register Database. The final sample included 3,969 Finns, as those who could not be reached were omitted from the original sample. A total of 1,648 Finns returned the questionnaire, the response rate thus yielded 41.5 percent. In this publication, we will give information on the data collection process, as well as assess non-sampling errors, and thus evaluate the representativeness of the data. In addition, the report also gives some interpretations about the future possibilities for the secondary uses of the data. The publication is intended as a guide for prospective users who are not acquainted with the survey data.
